Basic Requirements
- No age limit
- Have a business sponsor
- Have a nominated occupation on the occupation lists
- Have 2 years of work experience in the nominated occupation
- Have a positive skills assessment (applies to some occupations)
- Meet certain level of English (depending on short or medium term stream)
Note: There are 2 streams depending on your occupation. The short-term stream has no Permanent Residency pathway but can be renewed for another 2 years while onshore.
1. Direct Entry Stream
- Below 45 years old (some exemptions apply)
- Be nominated by an Australian employer
- Have at least 3 years of work experience in the nominated occupation
- Have a positive skills assessment (applies to some occupations only)
- Have competent level of English
2. Transition Stream
- Below 45 years old
- Your employer must have sponsored you to work full-time on your subclass 457 or subclass 482 visa for at least 3 of the 4 years prior to nominating you for the subclass 186 visa.
- If you held (or had applied for and were later granted) a subclass 457 visa on 18 April 2017, your employer must have sponsored you to work full-time for at least 2 of the 3 years prior to nominating you for this visa.
- Current employer wishes to continue sponsoring you
- Must currently hold a 457 visa or a 482 visa (medium to long-term list)

- Prove that the Australian business is unable to find an Australian resident to perform your role
- Prove that you can support yourself and your family while in Australia
- Prove that you intend to stay temporarily in Australia
- Visa duration of up to 6 months

- Be 18 or older
- Your sponsor must be approved as a temporary activities sponsor
- Your sponsor must nominate you for any of the 3 training options:
- Training required for registration
- Training required to improve skills
- Training required for capacity building overseas
- Prove intention to return home after visa
- Have functional level of English
Basic Requirements
- No age limit
- Purpose of visit must be one of the following:
- Special programs such as youth exchange, cultural or community involvement, school related, etc
- Religious work
- Research activities
- Community-based events relating to social and cultural activity
- Sporting activities (high level)
- Entertainment activities (film, television or live productions)
- Superyacht crew
- Exchange Arrangements (staff exchange with an Australian organisation)
- Australian government endorsed events
- Domestic work for senior foreign executives
